The Nippon Foundation has announced its Peace Grant Program, offering financial support for projects and activities that directly contribute to the realization of peace and tolerance in societies around the world.
The objectives of the program emphasize that peace is the hope of all humankind. At present they are awarding grants in the following two categories: Social activities based on a religious spirit and Grass-roots activities deployed on a local community.
Under this program, applicants may apply for a grant amount of up to 1,000,000 Japanese Yen or an equivalent amount in USD. However, the final amount awarded may be adjusted after the screening process conducted by the Screening Committee. The grant aims to support both short-term and long-term practical activities that are directly related to peacebuilding.
Eligible projects include activities that not only address issues within a specific field but also inspire initiatives across multiple disciplines. The program encourages creative and pioneering approaches that can serve as models for the realization of peace. It places particular emphasis on activities that are specific, address serious issues in society, employ innovative and effective methods, and demonstrate sustainability and broad social impact.
However, certain activities are ineligible for support. These include initiatives undertaken for the benefit of a specific religious group, projects based on or promoting a particular political ideology, for-profit activities, events that only involve holding conferences, and projects primarily intended for publishing the results of activities. Additionally, grants are not designed as scholarships or financial support for study abroad programs.
Through this initiative, the Nippon Foundation seeks to empower individuals and organizations committed to advancing peace, tolerance, and understanding in a rapidly changing world.
