Nominations are now pen for the 2021 30 Under 30 Awards to recognise young LGBTQIA+ people under the age of 30 who are:
- Making tangible contribution/s to bettering the life of LGBTQIA+ people in Australia
- Demonstrating success in their field, and
- Living with authenticity, courage and resilience – demonstrating the qualities of a role model.
Thirty people will be named the 30 Under 30 Award Winners, with five of those winners being chosen for five major category awards.
Award Categories
- Out for Change
- Changemaker of the Year: They owe what they have to those that came before them. This award recognises exceptional advocacy, and/or creating significant and tangible change for the LGBTQIA+ community. The Changemaker of the Year has gotten their hands dirty, fighting hard and speaking up in order to create real, tangible change for the LGBTQIA+ community.
- Out for the Next Generation
- Student of the Year: Young people can change the world. This award recognises exceptional achievement by a current student, whether in academic achievement, extracurricular and/or community involvement. The Student of the Year is a boss young person accomplishing milestones far beyond their age and showing them that young people can do anything.
- Out for Career Success
- Young Professional of the Year: If you can’t see it, you can’t be it. This award recognises exceptional success in any career field. Whatever type of workplace they come from – office, site or virtual – the Young Professional of the Year is a role model who proves LGBTQIA+ people can reach the top of their game.
- Out for Community
- Community Champion of the Year: The LGBTQIA+ community is stronger when they work together. This award recognises exceptional contribution to community building or volunteering effort within the LGBTQIA+ community. The Community Champion of the Year brings people together, creates safe queer spaces and teams, and fosters unity and understanding within the LGBTQIA+ community.
- Out for Mentoring
- Mentor of the Year: Mentoring is powerful. This award recognises an exceptional mentor under 30 in OFA’s mentoring program who has invested time, energy and passion in their mentee or mentees. The Mentor of the Year is a dedicated cheerleader who stops at nothing to upskill, connect and inspire others.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered eligible for an Out for Australia 30 Under 30 Award, nominees must:
- Openly identify as LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, trans, gender diverse, genderqueer, queer, intersex, asexual, agender, or of diverse gender identity and/or sexual orientation)
- Be at least 18 years old when they are nominated, and under 30 years of age on the 21st October 2021
- Not be a current Out for Australia volunteer (winners can be previous Out for Australia volunteers, but they must be recognised for work separate to their volunteering with Out for Australia)
- Not be a current employee/volunteer/student placement at at BCG
- Not have won an Out for Australia 30 Under 30 Award in 2020 (provided they meet the other requirements, 2020 winners would next be eligible in 2022)
