The Waste Authority has launched the WasteSorted Awards to recognise the outstanding achievements of Western Australians working towards a low waste and circular economy future, through improved waste practices and innovative waste solutions.
It celebrates those making landfill the last resort by avoiding, reusing and recycling waste and inspiring others to follow in their footsteps.
Waste champions from across the Western Australian community and waste industry are encouraged to apply. The awards are open to individuals, business and industry, government, schools, community organisations and not-for-profits.
Award Categories

- 2023 Community Waste Award
- This award is open to all voluntary or non-profit individuals, groups and organisations.

- 2023 Schools Award
- Open to all public, independent, and non-government schools in Western Australia from K-12. Schools must have current WasteSorted Schools accreditation to enter.
- 2023 Schools Award
- Category 3
- 2023 Business Award
- This award is open to any organisation, enterprise, or business.
- 2023 Business Award
- Category 4
- 2023 Waste Champion Individual Award
- This award is open to an individual who may also be part of a business, school, community or organisation.

- 2023 Waste Champion Team Award
- This award is open to a group or team of people, including business, school, community or organisational teams.

- 2023 Metro Local Government/Regional Council Award
- This award is open to all metro local governments and regional councils.

- Category 7
- 2023 Regional Local Government/Regional Council Award
- This award is open to all regional local governments and regional councils outside of the Perth Metropolitan area.

- This award is open to all individuals and organisations, including local governments and regional councils.

- This award is open to all for individuals, community groups, businesses and organisations (including governments).

Eligibility Criteria
- Essential
- Nomination form. You must return a completed and signed nomination form for each entry category you are entering.
- The submission document. This is your written response to the assessment criteria and is the main part of your entry that is assessed by the judges. Word limit is strictly as set out in the assessment criteria. Please structure your answers according to the assessment criteria. The use of headings, photos, graphics, tables and charts is encouraged.
- Optional
- You may submit other material and documents to support your entry and better illustrate its impact and results. Examples include reports, testimonials, media coverage, analytics, photos, videos and so forth. It is essential that all supporting documentation be referenced within your submission.
