Award Categories
This round has 4 new award categories that are open for Australian Biosecurity Awards nominations:
- Environmental Biosecurity Award
- Community Award
- Education Award
- Dr Kim Ritman Award for Science and Innovation
Criteria
- Environmental Biosecurity Award
- Open to individuals, groups or organisations. For a significant contribution to protect environment from biosecurity risks.
- Nominees for Australian Biosecurity Awards must meet at least one of these criteria:
- stop non-native pests, weeds or diseases from entering, establishing, or spreading in Australia
- raise awareness of environmental biosecurity in their area or sector. Thus achieving a positive change of behaviour
- develop or apply knowledge or techniques to improve environmental biosecurity outcomes. This can be through analysis, research, extension, or innovation
- promote Indigenous participation in activities that improve environmental biosecurity outcomes
- promote networks and collaboration to respond to environmental pests, weeds or diseases
- play a significant role in managing an environmental pest, weed or disease incursion.
- Education Award
- Open to schools, curriculums, higher education facilities or related. For educating the next generation of biosecurity-aware students.
- Nominees must meet at least one these criteria:
- develop biosecurity education approaches during the school year
- include biosecurity-related activities in their curriculum
- work in partnership with governments on topics related to biosecurity
- show commitment to innovation in biosecurity education.
- Community Award
- Open to individuals, groups and organisations. For helping deliver significant biosecurity outcomes.
- Nominees for Australian Biosecurity Awards must meet at least one of these criteria:
- show significant biosecurity integrity
- raise biosecurity awareness within their organisation or community
- take part in the management of a disease outbreak or pest incursion
- report suspicious activities that may be of biosecurity concern
- make an outstanding contribution to protect or maintain animal or plant health
- raise awareness outside Australia of biosecurity system.
- Dr Kim Ritman Award for Science and Innovation
- Open to individuals. For those who are ambassadors for science and innovation in Australia.
- Nominees for Australian Biosecurity Awards must meet at least one of these criteria:
- make an outstanding contribution to maintaining plant health status. For example, being involved in preparedness and response of incursions of emergency plant pests
- develop technology or approaches that help manage biosecurity risks
- develop an innovation that has strengthened biosecurity system. For example, by managing exotic plant pests and diseases
- strengthen scientific capacity of the biosecurity system, both in Australia and overseas.
