IDC is seeking nominations for successful Smart Cities and Communities projects and initiatives in North American towns, cities, counties, states and provinces.
IDC’s 2024 Smart Cities North America Awards will be presented to the winning Smart Cities and Communities initiatives at an awards ceremony at the Smart Cities Connect conference being held in Raleigh, NC, May 8 – 10, 2024.
Categories
- Administration (e.g. Back Office, Digital Legislating)
- Civic Engagement (e.g Participatory budgeting, City Portals, 311 apps, self-service innovations)
- Data-Driven Policing (e.g. Real-time Crime Centers, Officer Wearables, Video Analytics)
- Next-Generation Emergency Services (e.g. Next Gen 911, Early Warning Systems)
- Digital Equity and Accessibility (e.g. Public WiFi, Accessibility Services, Translation services)
- Economic Development, Tourism, Arts, Libraries, Culture, Open Spaces (e.g. Connected Museums, Event management, Digital Currencies, Augmented reality tourism)
- Education (e.g. Smart Campus, Smart Classrooms, Virtual Offerings, Online and Remote Services)
- Public Health and Social Services (e.g. Addiction Monitoring and Prevention, Predictive Disease Management, Humanitarian Services)
- Smart Buildings (e.g. Capacity Planning, Return-to-Work Programs, Sustainability, Security Systems)

- Transportation (e.g. Connected & Autonomous Vehicles, Public Transit, Ride-Hailing/Ride-Sharing, Electric Vehicles, Universal Mobility)
- Transportation Infrastructure (e.g. Parking, Transit Hubs; Traffic Management and Equipment for Connected and/or Autonomous Vehicles, EV Charging Infrastructure)
- Urban Planning and Land Use (e.g. Permitting, Licensing, Inspection & Zoning; Digital Twins, Community Resiliency)
Criteria
- Specifically, they are looking for best practice examples of innovation in technology and data, partnerships, funding models and community engagement. They are seeking details on implemented initiatives (pilots or projects) as opposed to ideas or planned initiatives.
- There are 14 initiative categories. You may select your project to be eligible for more than one category but not to exceed three categories. Three projects from each category will be announced as finalists prior to the announcement of the winner.
