Deadline: 27-Nov-2025
The Evolution Awards programme, overseen by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and supported through match funding from Future Screens NI, provides a unique opportunity for arts organisations to explore, develop, and showcase digital art.
The purposes of this programme, digital art is defined as artwork created entirely in the digital realm. These works may exist solely online, or they can be transformed into physical or immersive experiences through technology, such as installations in galleries, public spaces, or other venues that allow audiences to interact with or experience the art in person.
The primary aim of the Digital Evolution Awards is to help Northern Ireland arts organisations build capacity and expertise in emerging and immersive technologies. This includes enhancing technical skills, encouraging experimentation with innovative digital media, and fostering creativity that bridges the gap between digital production and audience engagement.
Funding for this programme is available up to a maximum of £10,000 per project. These awards are intended to support exceptional initiatives that push the boundaries of digital art and enable organisations to experiment with new approaches or technologies. Applicants may propose innovative projects, including immersive experiences, interactive installations, or digitally-driven public engagement activities that provide meaningful experiences for audiences.
The programme prioritises three key areas: the creation and production of digital arts, the development of opportunities for audiences to experience immersive and digital artworks, and fostering collaboration between arts organisations and other sectors. This cross-sector approach encourages partnerships with technology providers, educational institutions, or other creative industries, helping to amplify the reach and impact of the funded projects.
Eligible applicants include registered arts organisations, not-for-profit groups, and charities. Applications from consortia or collaborations between multiple organisations are also welcomed, allowing for the pooling of expertise and resources. Even organisations currently receiving an Arts Council Annual Funding Programme award can apply, provided the proposed project is a distinct initiative that was not anticipated in their existing funding agreements. This ensures that innovative, unplanned, or experimental projects have the opportunity to receive dedicated support.
Through the Evolution Awards, the Arts Council of Northern Ireland seeks to cultivate a vibrant and forward-looking digital arts ecosystem. By supporting the development of digital skills, facilitating audience engagement, and encouraging collaboration, the programme aims to position Northern Ireland at the forefront of digital and immersive arts practice. This initiative not only strengthens the creative sector but also enriches cultural experiences for communities and audiences across the region.
