The British Academy, funded by the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, is continuing its support for the Talent Development Awards scheme. This initiative is designed to help researchers enhance their skills, especially in interdisciplinary areas that may fall outside their primary discipline.
The scheme provides early-career researchers with a chance to build specialist skills that support the foundations of their academic careers. It also benefits mid- and senior-career researchers by allowing them to diversify their methodologies and explore new areas of research. Participants are encouraged to share their skills within their academic and professional communities.
The goal is to strengthen researchers’ capabilities in key areas such as quantitative methods, data science, digital humanities, and languages. The program supports innovative methods and collaboration, aiming to increase the quality of research across disciplines and sectors. It also emphasizes language learning and the broader benefits of these skills.
Funding of up to £10,000 is available for activities that support skill-building and engagement. These funds are not intended to cover salary or time buy-out. Awards can last from six to twelve months, with projects starting between 1 and 31 March 2026.
Applicants must be UK residents with a long-term position at a UK-based higher education or research institution. They should be pursuing independent research in the humanities or social sciences. Those without a doctorate may still apply if they demonstrate equivalent experience. Co-applicants can be based in the UK or abroad and must have relevant experience or expertise aligned with the project’s goals.
