Deadline: 30-Oct-2025
The Conferences, Symposia and Workshops Programme provides opportunities for established and early career researchers as well as practitioners to present and discuss the newest research and innovation activities within their fields.
The programme supports bottom-up events that gather scientists and students within a novel and exciting field, aiming to establish emerging communities or highlight new branches of established fields. It is not intended to support recurring annual meetings of established societies but may support a single instance of a recurring series if there is a special strategic focus or extraordinary opportunity for the Danish scientific community. Events must be held in Denmark, the Faroe Islands, or Greenland, with a duration of a few consecutive days, and must be advertised widely with open registration.
Conference topics are welcome within the areas supported by the Novo Nordisk Foundation: Biomedical and health science research and applications, Sustainability, Natural and technical science research and interdisciplinarity, Research in art and art history, Innovation, Education, and Outreach. Biomedical and health sciences focus on translational medicine and innovative clinical applications, including prevention and management of cardiometabolic diseases, reducing infectious disease burden, advancing regenerative medicine, and addressing health inequity. Sustainability targets global environmental challenges through agriculture, food, industrial and environmental biotechnology, and climate change mitigation technologies, including platforms and technologies enabling sustainability research.
Natural and technical sciences include interdisciplinary research and fundamental studies in chemistry, physics, quantum technologies, engineering, computer and data science, biology, and mathematics, along with developing new technologies and infrastructures. Research in art and art history covers all eras and media, from prehistoric to modern, including interdisciplinary projects linking art history with science and technology. Innovation supports translating research into health and sustainability solutions, emphasizing early innovation and ecosystems. Education promotes engagement in STEM across all levels, while Outreach strengthens public scientific literacy, fosters appreciation of research, and builds societal engagement in the green transition.
Eligibility requires that the main applicant is a specific individual employed at a university, a non-profit research institution, or a non-profit professional association based in Denmark, the Faroe Islands, or Greenland. Applicants must be the lead organiser with relevant subject-matter expertise. Events must be completed within 18 months of grant notification, and the programme is open biannually.
A total of up to DKK 9.1 million is available annually, with grants of up to DKK 500,000 per project. Funding may cover costs such as facilities, equipment, travel and accommodation for speakers, travel grants for early career researchers, catering, poster prizes, administrative expenses, and limited salaries for a conference secretary. The programme will not fund commercial activities, overhead costs, or projects that receive overlapping funding from other sources.
Applications will be evaluated based on novelty and strategic relevance, expected impact on the research community, quality of the programme and invited speakers, engagement of early career researchers, diversity, accessibility, budget adequacy, and the applicant’s track record.
