Deadline: 11-Oct-2025
The Straits Committee Small Project Initiative is a funding opportunity designed to foster cross-border collaboration between local organisations in Kent and their counterparts in France, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
This initiative aims to promote good neighbourly relations and create opportunities for mutual benefit through joint projects that demonstrate tangible outcomes.
To be eligible, projects must be submitted by at least two eligible organisations from two different countries within the Straits Committee area. Projects involving a partner in the United Kingdom are expected to include organisations from at least three different Straits member areas. Eligible organisations are legally constituted groups located in the Straits Committee area. Private individuals or projects benefiting only an individual are not eligible. Organisations based elsewhere in France, the UK, Belgium, or the Netherlands may apply if project activities or beneficiaries are within a Straits member territory. Additional partners, whether inside or outside the Straits area, may participate at their own expense, provided their involvement adds value to the project and aligns with the Straits Committee’s objectives.
Funding is provided as a small revenue grant towards some or all of the project costs, with each participating organisation receiving funding from their respective local authority. Applications cannot fund completed projects, but ongoing projects may be considered if the grant clearly adds value. Projects can last up to two years, and applications must clearly state the start and end dates.
Applications require a joint submission, including completed application and budget forms from all partner organisations. Interested organisations should complete an expression of interest form to discuss the suitability of their project idea.
This initiative is part of the Straits Committee’s broader efforts to strengthen cross-border cooperation and address shared challenges in economic development, climate change, and community engagement. By supporting innovative and collaborative projects, the Straits Committee aims to enhance the quality of life for residents in the participating regions.
