Deadline: 01-Sep-2025
The Community Innovation Grant supports organizations developing creative ways to improve lives and strengthen communities on Haida Gwaii. It funds small-scale, innovative projects that enhance the wellbeing of islanders, create opportunities, and foster collaboration.
Priority areas include job creation through sustainable, locally-driven employment, health and wellness initiatives that promote healthy lifestyles and community-based care, education and training programs that build skills for future employment and leadership, community-building efforts that connect residents and organizations, and projects that preserve Haida Gwaii’s cultural heritage and natural environment while promoting sustainable resource use.
Organizations can receive up to $10,000 per year, with eligible expenses covering health, wellness, job creation, education, training, language, environmental protection, infrastructure, emergency preparedness, and technology. Temporary jobs, including internships, mentorships, student positions, and work experience for residents, are also supported, alongside contingency funding and eligible administration costs for small non-profits. Innovative ideas beyond the listed priorities are welcome.
Funding is not available for core operations, expenses incurred before board approval, or temporary jobs that replace existing positions or take over responsibilities of government-funded organizations. Applications are open to local non-profit organizations and local governments.
