The Scottish Connections Fund provides grants to support new projects that promote Scotland’s reputation and strengthen connections with the global Scottish diaspora. This initiative is designed to enhance visibility and connectivity between communities with Scottish ties and Scotland itself through creative and collaborative projects.
Grants range between £2,000 and £5,000, with a total budget of £75,000 available for the 2025–2026 financial year. Projects must demonstrate alignment with at least one goal from the Scottish Connections Framework. Proposals that span multiple sectors such as culture, education, tourism, business, and residency will receive additional scoring weight.
Projects should focus on increasing the vibrancy, visibility, and connectivity of Scottish diaspora communities and must include a credible communications plan that highlights Scotland as an ideal place to live, work, study, visit, or do business. Inclusion and diversity are strongly encouraged, particularly those involving underrepresented communities such as ethnic minorities, LGBTQ groups, women, and youth.
All projects should be completed by 31 March 2026 and remain within budget. Co-funding is encouraged where possible. Funding can cover expenses like venue hire, IT equipment, learning materials, project implementation costs, and justified travel and accommodation.
However, the grant cannot be used to purchase or repair buildings, land, or vehicles, nor for per diems, religious or political materials, overheads, consultancy fees, or alcohol. Routine operating costs and repeated projects are also ineligible.
Eligible applicants include individuals or organizations who identify as part of the Scottish diaspora or maintain a Scottish connection. This includes heritage and cultural groups, alumni of Scottish institutions, organizations with business ties to Scotland, and coordinators of Scottish-themed events such as Highland Games or festivals.
