The Community Grants programme by Rainbow New Zealand Charitable Trust is designed to empower and support the development of education, health, welfare, cultural, and other support services for the LGBTTQIA+ communities of Aotearoa New Zealand.
The programme aims to direct funding where it is most needed and where it can create the greatest impact, supporting both well-established Rainbow-led organisations that provide a wide range of services, as well as smaller grassroots groups and projects that play a vital role in uplifting the wider Rainbow community.
The purpose of the Community Grants is to contribute to projects and initiatives run by the Rainbow community for the benefit of the community as a whole. These can include educational, cultural, sporting, and other events, including activities held during Pride Parades, Festivals, and other Rainbow-focused events throughout New Zealand. The grants are intended to fund initiatives that strengthen and affirm the LGBTTQIA+ community, ensuring that support reaches those who will benefit most.
Grants are available to not-for-profit groups and organisations that are run or managed by Rainbow communities. Funding is provided to projects, support services, resources, and events, including Pride-related activities, and may also cover certain overhead or operational costs. Applications are expected to demonstrate measurable benefits for the wider Rainbow community rather than serving the needs of an individual.
To be eligible for funding, applicants must be Rainbow-led or Rainbow-oriented organisations whose primary purpose is to provide support to Rainbow communities. Proposed projects must clearly benefit the wider community, and applicants should be able to demonstrate the capacity to deliver the initiative effectively, supported by a clear scope and budget. This ensures that Community Grants are used to strengthen the Rainbow community in meaningful and lasting ways.
