Deadline: 28-Jul-2025
The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has launched a program aimed at strengthening community engagement for the Measles Rubella (MR) Vaccination Campaign and increasing HPV vaccine uptake through targeted interventions in Nigeria. The initiative focuses on health and immunization, specifically in Bauchi and the Abuja Federal Capital Territory.
For the Measles Rubella Campaign, the program includes orienting PTA chairpersons, headteachers, and school health club teachers. It also involves developing and distributing school-specific IEC materials, as well as training religious leaders on MR vaccines and following up on their use of sermon guides in major worship centers. Ward Development Committees (WDC) will be oriented, deployed, and supervised at the ward level. Ward Focal Persons will be supported to facilitate community dialogues. Mobilizers and town announcers will receive orientation prior to the campaign. Additionally, the program will identify and engage special populations in up to three wards per LGA, and mobilize key community influencers to participate in demand creation.
For HPV vaccine routinization, the program adopts co-creation tools tailored to the local context. It includes conducting co-creation sessions with girls and caregivers, promoting vaccine demand through edutainment and information activities, and engaging community gatekeepers as local influencers. Teachers in low-performing LGAs will be trained to lead assemblies and class discussions. The initiative also focuses on documenting innovative and effective HPV activities and includes training health service providers to offer youth-friendly services in 10 health facilities per LGA across 257 LGAs in 15 states.
Proposals will be evaluated based on the clarity of planned activities and results, previous experience working with UN agencies, local presence and expertise, sector-specific knowledge, and the ability to maintain accountability and strong relationships with communities.
