Deadline: 10-Sep-2025
The Shannon Community Development Trust offers funding support to residents of the Shannon township for a variety of community development initiatives. These include educational activities such as scholarships, training and equipment for community protection, financial assistance for community recognition events, and in certain cases, support to alleviate hardship.
Grants typically range between $300 and $2,000. Both individuals and organisations are eligible to apply. Applicants must be residents of the Shannon township, and their initiatives should benefit either the community as a whole or a specific individual within it. Eligible applicants include those offering cultural, sporting, environmental, or social services in the area.
Applicants must not have significant reserve funds or access to sufficient grants from other sources. Only one application per individual or group event will be considered within a financial year. Receiving a grant in one year does not guarantee funding in the future, and priority is given to those who haven’t received support from the Trust in the last three years.
For any goods or services costing over $250, at least two quotes should be included, preferably from Horowhenua-based suppliers. Applicants must also provide a bank deposit slip or a certified statement from their bank, along with letters of support from relevant organisations, coaches, teachers, or governing bodies.
Organisations applying must focus their proposed activity in the Shannon Community. However, the Trust may consider funding projects occurring outside the township if there is clear benefit to the local community. Organisations are required to submit their most recent financial statements and a certificate of incorporation if applicable.
Individuals applying for educational or sporting scholarships must include their CV, a letter from an independent referee with contact details, and their academic records or relevant correspondence from sports teams or associations confirming their selection.
