Deadline: 30-Sep-2025
The Sport NZ Rural Travel Fund aims to remove the barrier of cost to participation in regular sport for young people aged 5–18 years in rural communities, ensuring greater access to local sporting opportunities.
The focus is on supporting sports club teams and school-based club teams in the Southland District Council area with young people aged between 5–18 years. Eligible rural school club teams must participate in regular local sports competitions outside school time, excluding interschool and intra-school competitions held during school hours. Eligible rural sports club teams must take part in organised, regular sports competitions through club membership outside of school time. The fund is not available to rural teams located outside the Southland District, individual players, coaches, or officials, teams competing during school time, or for travel to regional or national competitions.
There are two funding rounds each year, closing on 31 March and 30 September, with applications usually considered at Council meetings in May and November. Approximately $13,900 is available annually, distributed over the two rounds, with grants typically ranging between $400 and $1,500.
Applicants must provide bank account verification and ensure documents are saved digitally for upload with their application.
