Deadline: 16-Oct-2025
The UK Research and Innovation has launched its STFC Leadership Fellowships to support public engagement with Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) science, technology, or facilities. This funding opportunity is designed to help talented individuals at early and established career stages lead extended, high-quality public engagement programs focused on STFC. The goal is to build capacity within host organizations and relevant networks while making a significant contribution as leaders of public engagement within the STFC community.
The fellowships aim to highlight the achievements of STFC science, technology, and facilities, showcasing the excitement of research and the value of STEM fields to the UK. They also seek to inspire colleagues, students, and the public by involving them with STFC-supported work.
Funding for the fellowships covers up to £225,000 in full economic costs (FEC), with STFC funding 80% of that amount. Within this total, up to 50% of full-time equivalent (FTE) can be allocated to administration and logistics. The award duration ranges from a minimum of 24 months to a maximum of 36 months.
Applicants must demonstrate a strong track record of leadership in their field and public engagement, appropriate to their career stage. Eligible candidates may be involved in an STFC-funded area of science and technology or be regular users of STFC’s national or international laboratories and facilities. The fellowship supports individuals at various career stages, from early to established.
All applicants must have a contract of employment for the entire fellowship duration. Eligible organizations include higher education providers, research institutes, public sector research establishments, NHS bodies, independent research organizations, and Catapult centres. Applicants outside STFC’s academic communities or not based at eligible UK organizations are not eligible.
Applications will be assessed by a panel of experts who will evaluate the quality of submissions and rank them. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interviews, expected to take place between 26 January 2026 and 6 February 2026. The final funding decision rests with STFC.
The entire assessment process aims to be completed within six months of receiving applications. Applicants will receive feedback along with the outcome of their submission.
