Deadline: 01-Apr-2027
The ACT Government is now accepting applications for its City of Design Small Project.
A new funding opportunity is now available for Canberra’s creative community through the Smaller Projects stream, supporting projects that contribute to the 2026 Craft + Design Canberra Festival or enhance the city’s identity as a global design capital. This stream is ideal for more modest projects with creative impact, offering funding of up to $5,000 per project.
With a total pool of approximately $100,000 available, the Smaller Projects stream encourages participation from artists, designers, innovators, cultural organisations, and creative businesses based in Canberra. Whether the activity is part of the official festival program or operates independently with a strong alignment to the city’s creative goals, the funding aims to support meaningful contributions to Canberra’s vibrant design scene.
Eligible applicants include both individuals and groups. Unincorporated organisations must either nominate one person to take on financial and legal responsibility or arrange for an incorporated organisation to auspice the project. Organisations already receiving support from the ACT Government’s Arts Organisation Investment Program may also apply, provided the proposed project is new and intended for the 2026 festival.
Certain activities are not eligible for support under this stream. These include any projects that have already taken place, open studio events, market stalls, and activities connected to coursework or academic assessments. Additionally, any programs delivered by government agencies, including the ACT Government, are not eligible for funding.
This funding stream offers a valuable platform for small-scale, creative initiatives to gain recognition and play a role in shaping Canberra’s reputation as a city of design.
