The Ratepayer Grant under the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Trust offers a valuable opportunity for small charities in Brisbane to secure funding that directly benefits the community.
Designed to support grassroots initiatives, this opportunity is open to organisations providing essential services to Brisbane City Council residents, particularly those serving vulnerable groups.
Eligible organisations must hold Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status and be incorporated, operating under not-for-profit objectives with a clear charitable purpose. They should be registered with relevant bodies such as the ACNC or ASIC, and their activities must take place within the Brisbane local government area. The organisation’s activities must align with the purposes endorsed under its DGR status and be consistent with its constitution.
Funding of up to $10,000 is available through this grant, making it a practical and accessible source of support for small-scale, high-impact community projects. Successful applicants are required to prepare a one-page project proposal, a detailed budget with supporting quotes, a current bank statement for verification, and a DGR certificate. Smaller charities recognized by the ACNC may not need to provide audited financial statements. Visual identity is also considered, with a high-resolution logo requested for promotional purposes.
For urgent or emergency requests, the Trust considers out-of-session applications at the discretion of its Directors. Once the grant is approved, recipients are expected to complete a six-month acquittal process to report on outcomes.
This programme empowers nonprofits rooted in the local community by providing them with timely, accessible support to bring their projects to life and enhance wellbeing across Brisbane.
