The Lauritzen Foundation supports projects that facilitate vulnerable children’s way into education and employment.
Their projects have been more focused on vulnerable children and young people. They believe that in order to pull together as a unit in the future they need to make sure that all hands have the strength to do the lifting. They believe there’s resources in each and everyone of them. Thus projects aiming at securing the well-being, safe environment and upbringing for those vulnerable groups in society have their interest. In addition they support projects ranging within their foundation charter such as shipping, culture, social and humanitarian work, and education.
Well-being is expressed through the child’s joy of life, curiosity and willingness to go. Several people point out that well-being is linked to children and young people’s opportunities for development and learning. At the Lauritzen Foundation, the focus on well-being is about supporting initiatives that work with children’s well-being, for example through access to communities, play and movement. Education is about the skills and attitudes that equip children and young people to be active and take responsibility for themselves and participate in communities. Research indicates that in order to have an active adult life, cultural, social and educational resources are important. The foundation’s focus on education includes support for initiatives that are based on ensuring life skills—social and cultural skills that go beyond the academic.
The foundation operates an open application system with four grant cycles each year. The upcoming application deadlines are listed for applicants to plan ahead and ensure timely submission, as projects that have already begun or are completed are not eligible for support. Applicants are expected to demonstrate how their project will serve the public good and embody the foundation’s philosophy of “help-to-self help.” Guidance is provided on how to articulate the idea and vision behind the project, emphasizing a combination of innovation and professional quality. Mandatory elements include a clear description of the project’s purpose, the means or activities to be undertaken, expected results, defined target group, and a communication plan tailored to that group. A detailed budget and financial plan are also required. The application portal allows for saving progress, but unsaved data will be lost if inactive for more than 30 minutes.
