Deadline: 01-Aug-2025
The Tauranga City Council has announced an open call for its Public Art Fund to support and enhance public art projects with greater structure and intentionality. The fund aims to celebrate the diverse stories that shape the community’s identity and honor its evolving nature.
It encourages bold, inclusive, and innovative creative practices by artists, valuing their contribution to the city’s cultural landscape. The fund also promotes sustainability by partnering with other funders and the private sector to create a lasting program of public artworks and related activities.
Public art projects supported by the fund are designed to enrich everyday life, activating the public art collection through promotional efforts, community engagement, wayfinding experiences, and interpretation. These initiatives aim to attract and involve both residents and visitors.
Grant awards are up to $50,000, and applicants must demonstrate how their project contributes to strategic outcomes such as growing distinctive world-class public art, integrating art into infrastructure projects from the start, or bringing vibrancy through community and temporary art programs.
Applications are welcome from anyone interested in creating or commissioning public art, including artists, commissioners, and community organizations. However, projects already funded or sponsored by Tauranga City Council cannot receive funding again through this program. Costs related to launch events or routine organizational expenses like salaries are not eligible.
