The City of Unley has announced the Community Grants Program for September 2025 to encourage and support local initiatives that enhance wellbeing, respond to community needs, and improve quality of life for residents.
The focus areas, objectives, priorities, and themes include recreation through innovative programs, equipment, and fitness initiatives; art and culture through collaborative projects between artists and the community, cultural awareness programs, and community art activities; community initiatives through new programs targeting disadvantaged or minority groups, learning and skill development, health and safety programs, and projects that promote healthy eating and access to food; and environment through community garden projects, awareness and education initiatives, streetscape programs, and efforts to reduce water and energy use, minimise pollution, and improve vegetation.
The program offers funding of up to $5,000 for eligible projects, with the total pool for the 2024/25 financial year set at $85,000. Applications for the current round close on 30 September 2025, and late submissions will not be accepted. Projects commencing prior to 1 December 2025 are ineligible for funding.
Applicants may include not-for-profit community groups, organisations, and individuals under the auspice of a not-for-profit group. Organisations do not need to be incorporated but must have a current bank account in the organisation’s name. All applicants must operate within, or propose activities taking place within, the City of Unley area.
Applications will be assessed against specific criteria, including evidence of community need, direct benefit to the target community, sustainability, innovation, wider benefit to the City of Unley, alignment with strategic plans, and promotion of inclusion and wellbeing. Additional considerations include engagement of volunteers, disability access, resource leverage, and clear promotional and evaluation plans.
Successful applicants will be notified following the November 2025 Council meeting. They will be required to complete a Grant Acceptance Form, meet any additional Council approvals, and submit a Final Financial Acquittal Report within twelve months of project completion.
