Deadline: 26-Aug-2025
The Harold Hyam Wingate Foundation is currently accepting grant applications for projects that create meaningful impact on individuals or communities and leave a lasting legacy. The foundation supports initiatives across five main areas: Music, Performing Arts (excluding music), Jewish/Interfaith activities, Medical Research Travel Grants, and Personal Awards.
In the field of music, the foundation funds projects that promote performance and education, especially those lacking commercial sponsorship or public funding. Priority is given to bursaries, apprenticeships, and fellowships for individuals supported by institutions recognized for excellence. Special focus is placed on applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds and on projects involving active participation by marginalized groups, including homeless individuals, asylum seekers, and young people in under-resourced schools.
For performing arts, the foundation has a long-standing commitment to supporting excellence through similar means, including grants for individuals and projects that involve excluded communities. As with music, participation, skill-building, and access for disadvantaged groups are key priorities.
In the area of Jewish/Interfaith engagement, the foundation supports initiatives in the UK that foster peaceful coexistence and mutual respect between Jewish and Muslim communities. This includes cultural collaborations and efforts to enhance public understanding of Jewish life and history. In the Middle East, support is given to programs that promote coexistence between Arab/Palestinian and Jewish citizens in Israel and neighboring regions.
The foundation also provides travel grants for medical researchers. These grants, up to £1,000, are intended for visits to laboratories to gain new skills or build collaborative projects. Applicants must provide detailed information about the visit’s benefits, letters of support, a CV, and justification of the amount requested. The foundation does not fund travel for conferences or symposia.
Personal Awards are available to individuals with ideas that can spark positive change within the foundation’s supported areas. Grants can reach up to £5,000. Applications should clearly explain the intended public benefit, potential for impact, whether the approach is innovative or proven, and how the outcomes will be measured. Additional funding sources and long-term value must also be addressed.
Eligibility for music-related grants primarily favors those studying or working in the UK, though not exclusively. The foundation values projects that involve performance and skill development. It does not fund ticket subsidies. Performing arts applications must also prioritize inclusion, excellence, and engagement with underrepresented groups.
In Jewish/Interfaith work, applications are especially encouraged from organizations with a strong record of promoting reconciliation and liberal values. Projects should have tangible, practical outcomes.
Applications for medical research travel grants should not relate to attendance at congresses or conferences. Instead, they should involve meaningful research collaboration and skill acquisition.
Personal Awards must fall within the foundation’s core areas—Music, Performing Arts, and the Jewish Community in a broad context. Applications outside these categories, or focused on political campaigning, formal education like doctorates, or conference travel will not be considered. Applicants must also be UK residents.
