Deadline: 09-Aug-2025
To celebrate its 30th anniversary in Peru, UNESCO has launched a photography contest titled “UNESCO Designated Sites in Peru: Where Life and History Meet.” The contest invites participants to capture images that showcase the natural, cultural, and human richness of these unique locations and reflect on the connection between heritage and daily life.
The initiative aims to highlight the significance of UNESCO sites in Peru and honor those whose visual perspectives reveal the deep ties between land, culture, and sustainability. According to UNESCO Representative Guiomar Alonso Cano, the competition seeks to promote awareness of how heritage and environment shape communities and their futures.
Photographers are encouraged to portray the landscapes, biodiversity, and architecture that define these UNESCO-designated areas. The images should also reflect the lives of local communities, illustrating how they engage in everyday practices and conservation efforts that preserve these spaces for future generations.
A jury of experts in photography, heritage, and culture will evaluate the entries based on creativity, visual quality, and their connection to cultural and environmental heritage.
Winners will receive prizes such as travel packages, domestic flights, and scholarships for programs at the Toulouse Lautrec School and the Lima Art Museum (MALI). Thirteen selected photographs will be featured in a virtual and/or physical exhibition.
The contest is open to anyone aged 18 and older who is a Peruvian national or resides in Peru.
