The Makani Programme—“My Space” in Arabic—is a community-based model designed to provide integrated, inclusive services that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social well-being of children and youth. Operating across 133 prioritized cadastres, it aims to serve at least 30,000 children and their caregivers through a comprehensive package of services. These services include non-formal education, child protection, early childhood development, life skills development, youth engagement, and inclusive learning support.
Each Makani centre is tailored to local contexts and community needs, functioning with flexible staffing models and schedules. The centres also provide a safe environment that welcomes wide community participation, ensuring marginalized children can access referrals to further specialized services when necessary.
By the end of 2026, the programme seeks to significantly increase access for marginalized children and adolescents, both in and out of school, to quality educational programmes. It also aims to offer foundational literacy and numeracy skills, alongside life and work-readiness skills to prepare youth for the future.
The application deadline for interested NGOs is August 22, 2025, with selected partners expected to begin implementation by January 1, 2026. The initiative will run until December 31, 2026.
