Deadline: 28-Apr-23
The City of Wodonga is seeking applications for its Volunteer of the Year Awards 2023 to volunteers for their outstanding contribution to the local community.
The theme for National Volunteer Week this year is “the change makers” – a perfect description for the volunteers, without whom society would not be the same.
Not all heroes wear capes. Some deliver meals, fight fires, or care for the vulnerable – they’re the beloved volunteers and it’s time to recognise their efforts in Wodonga Council’s 2023 Volunteer Awards.
Awards are given to individuals and teams to recognise excellence in voluntary service and are intended to raise awareness and appreciation of the quality and depth of voluntary service in the community. The awards are not seeking to identify a ‘best volunteer’, but to award the volunteer doing their best for the community.
Categories
- The award categories are as follows.
- Bryan Watson Award (Wodonga Individual Volunteer of the Year Award): Recognition of an outstanding and effective volunteer as the Individual Volunteer of the Year. The individual award winner will receive a trophy and certificate to commemorate their achievement, as well as a $1000 donation from the Rotary Club of Belvoir-Wodonga to donate to the recipient’s favourite local charity.
- Wodonga Volunteer Team of the Year Award: Recognition of an exceptional team of volunteers as the Volunteer Team of the Year. The team award winner will receive a trophy and certificate to commemorate their achievement.
- Two Cities One Community Volunteer Award: Recognition of an individual or team who has made an outstanding and exceptional contribution to both Albury and Wodonga. The award winner will receive a trophy and certificate to commemorate their achievement.
Eligibility Criteria
- Only volunteers are eligible.
- Volunteers are considered to be individuals or groups who are not paid for their activities and efforts (apart from reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses incurred).
- The national definition of volunteering states that:
- “Volunteering is time willingly given for the common good and without financial gain.”
- An individual volunteer may be nominated by an organisation or individuals, on the official nomination form. Award winners are ineligible for nomination in the year following their award.
- Nominated persons for the Wodonga Individual and Wodonga Team Volunteer of the Year Awards must volunteer in Wodonga and demonstrate involvement, or participation within the Wodonga community.
- Nominated persons for the Two Cities One Community Volunteer Award must volunteer in Albury and Wodonga.
