Deadline: 08-Aug-2025
The Women Leading Change Initiative is designed to strengthen the ability of female-led civil society and non-governmental organizations in Liberia. It focuses on enhancing their skills in writing competitive mini-business proposals and fostering partnerships with financial institutions and telecom companies.
As Liberia experiences changes in international aid, sustaining community health programs relies more on strong local support. The initiative helps bridge this gap by building local capacity in areas critical to health and development.
It aims to train organizations in proposal development, offer mentorship in financial literacy, and create links with banks and telecom providers to support funding, digital inclusion, and service delivery. A long-term goal is to establish a sustainable financing model for community health workers (CHWs) delivering essential services.
Key sectors include community health, nutrition, health governance, and entrepreneurship. The initiative targets several counties in Liberia, including Grand Bassa, River Cess, Sinoe, Grand Kru, Grand Gedeh, Nimba, Bong, Gbarpolu, Lofa, Grand Cape Mount, Bomi, and Margibi.
Expected outcomes include the successful training of at least three female-led organizations in proposal development, submission of 30 competitive mini-proposals, and delivery of financial literacy training to 1,500 participants. It also aims to improve technical skills in budgeting and impact measurement, create a repository of proposal templates, and develop a peer mentorship network for CHWs.
A customized toolkit will be created to help community health and enterprise efforts. The initiative also seeks to establish formal partnerships with at least three financial institutions and two telecom companies.
Selection will be based on access and security considerations, clarity of proposed activities, contribution of resources, local presence, cost-effectiveness, prior experience with the UN, and the use of innovative approaches.
