Deadline: 31-Aug-2025
The Wood Buffalo Community Grant cycle is now open, offering critical support to programs and initiatives that strengthen the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of communities across the Wood Buffalo region.
This funding opportunity is centered on enhancing resilience—both for individuals and communities—by fostering adaptability, recovery, and long-term sustainability.
This year’s theme focuses on the multi-dimensional nature of resilience. It emphasizes the ability to withstand and recover from adversity, the ongoing pursuit of well-being despite ongoing challenges, and the importance of readiness and resourcefulness when facing uncertainty. These perspectives guide the kinds of programs the grant seeks to support—those that build inner strength, foster social support systems, and offer practical tools to manage and overcome hardship.
Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations that serve the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, including communities such as Fort McMurray, Fort Chipewyan, Fort McKay, and others. To qualify, organizations must hold charitable registration status or be recognized as a qualified donee by the Canada Revenue Agency.
Funding through the Wood Buffalo Community Foundation can be applied to detailed project costs, pilot initiatives, and seed funding for new ideas. While the grant provides valuable contributions to project-related expenditures, it is not intended for deficit funding, political or religious activities, or initiatives primarily benefitting individuals. Capital campaigns, land purchases, and annual fundraising events also fall outside the scope of eligible funding.
This grant cycle provides a meaningful opportunity for organizations to amplify their impact, expand vital services, and promote resilience throughout the Wood Buffalo region. By supporting thoughtful, community-driven initiatives, the program aims to nurture a stronger, more connected, and more adaptable future for all residents.
