Deadline: 05-Nov-2025
The Woodsmith Foundation is offering an important opportunity for local organisations to secure funding for projects that create meaningful change in their communities.
The programme focuses on supporting initiatives within the Borough of Redcar and Cleveland, the Borough of Scarborough, and the North York Moors National Park, with the central aim of increasing opportunities and tackling disadvantage.
The Foundation is committed to funding projects that open up better life chances, encourage positive change by addressing issues that hold people back, and bring communities together through shared spaces, activities, and resources. Whether through improving lives and places, offering learning opportunities, or creating activities that foster community action, the funding is designed to strengthen both individuals and communities.
Grants are available between £200 and £10,000, with organisations encouraged to apply only for what is genuinely needed based on accurate costs and quotes. Across three funding rounds in 2025, the Foundation expects to distribute a total of £180,000. Each organisation may only submit one application within a twelve-month period, ensuring fair access to the available funds.
A wide range of organisations are eligible to apply. Local voluntary groups with a governing committee and constitution, registered charities, charitable incorporated organisations, and community interest companies limited by guarantee are all welcomed. Parish and Town Councils, faith organisations running secular projects for the wider community, and schools or school fundraising groups that are constituted voluntary groups are also eligible. In some cases, companies limited by guarantee with charitable objectives may be considered, following further checks and only on a one-time basis.
There are, however, clear restrictions. The Foundation does not provide grants to individuals, private businesses, CICs limited by shares, local authorities outside of parish or town councils, or organisations lacking a minimum of two unrelated committee members or bank signatories.
This funding presents a valuable chance for local groups to secure financial support for projects that will leave a lasting impact. By encouraging collaboration, innovation, and community action, the Woodsmith Foundation seeks to enrich lives and create stronger, fairer, and more connected communities across its area of benefit.
