WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities launched the second cycle of the WRI Ross Center Prize for Cities, a global competition that celebrates transformative urban change.
The WRI Ross Center Prize for Cities is the premier global award celebrating and spotlighting transformative urban change. The Prize is awarded to projects or initiatives based on their contribution to sustainable urban transformation in their cities, including those that:
- Protect lives and livelihoods threatened by the changing climate
- Increase accessibility without increasing the carbon footprint
- Fuel innovation and economic opportunity without polluting by products
- Shift traditional models of behavior and daily practices
- Use new data, knowledge, governance and / or finance
- Tackle potentially negative effects of climate policies
For the 2020-2021 cycle, the Prize for Cities invites submissions on the theme of “Inclusive Cities for a Changing Climate,” seeking initiatives that show how to live and thrive in a changing climate by tackling both the climate crisis and urban inequality.
Prize Information
One winner will receive the grand prize of US $250,000. There will be four runners-up who will each receive an award in the amount of US $25,000. The prize is awarded as a lump sum to one or several recipients and may be spent at recipients’ discretion.
Eligibility Criteria
- Businesses, NGOs, community groups, local governments and collaborations of all types of organizations and individuals from the public, private and not-for-profit sectors can apply for a chance to:
- Be celebrated on a global stage
- Travel to New York City for awards ceremony
- Gain exposure to international media and a world-class jury
- Join a global network of urban experts and change-makers
- The Prize accepts submissions in Chinese, English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, and Turkish. Please use the submission form in your language of choice.
