Deadline: 30-Jun-2026
The City of Sydney is now accepting applications for its Dixon Street Improvement Grant Program. This program aims to revitalize the historic heart of Chinatown by offering matched funding for capital works to improve shop and building frontages on Dixon Street south.
The grant supports projects that visibly renew shopfronts and façades, enhance the character of the area, and contribute to creating a “chef’s gallery” concept that brings food preparation to the forefront, visible from the street. These enhancements are intended to activate and beautify Dixon Street while preserving its cultural identity.
Three types of projects are eligible for support. Type 1 includes major street-level works, with funding up to $60,000 per shopfront. Type 2 covers minor street-level works, with funding up to $20,000 per shopfront. Type 3 supports upper storey works, offering up to $60,000 per property.
Eligible works include upgrading shopfronts, external signs, lighting, installing larger or bi-fold windows, and restoring awnings. For upper storeys, eligible activities involve adding signage or street art, cleaning or repainting façades, restoring windows and awnings, and removing outdated external fixtures.
Funding is not available for purchasing buildings, internal renovations not visible from the street, business relocations, extensions, statutory fees, marketing, staffing, or reimbursing already-spent funds.
Applicants must propose work visible from Dixon Street, be landowners or lessees with landowner approval, hold an ABN, and ensure compliance with applicable building and planning standards.
