United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is pleased to announce a call for proposals entitled “Youth as Agents for Change During Election” to help younger generations counter disinformation and hate speech in addition to promoting media and information literacy plus access to information, especially during elections time.
UNESCO has engaged with thousands of youths to create change and is committed to empowering youth by providing them with spaces to participate and the right tools to be capable of making informed decisions.
Program Details
- Empowering youths, and including them in the rebuilding of Lebanon’s political class is essential to create change and accountability.
- Therefore, they need to learn, exercise their rights, and discover the power of their votes. In addition, young Lebanese with special needs have the right to learn how the current electoral law protects their right to free and independent access to polling stations, as well as participation in the elections.
- UNESCO Beirut office would like to spread awareness among young generations, mainly first-time voters, and increase their capacities on combating hate speech and disinformation within the context of the upcoming elections, targeting four to five different Lebanese regions.
- Through these sessions, UNESCO seeks to empower youth by giving them the right knowledge and tools in addition to simplifying the electoral process in a creative manner, hence helping younger generations take independent and informed decisions.
Beneficiaries
- The target of this project is Lebanese youths with ages ranging between 20 and 26, with a special focus on youth with special needs and female representation.
Duration of Contract
- Five months starting March 2022.
Assignment
- This call targets NGOs, organization, and institutions working on media, youth, and/or elections. The selected NGO/organization will need to undertake the following:
- Selection of trainers: Assigning a trainer or more for each of the selected regions (regions to be suggested within the proposal);
- Selection of the youth participants: Selecting of participants (20 – 25) in consultation with UNESCO with agreed-upon criteria;
- Training of youth selected: Training selected youth on Media & Information Literacy, combating hate speech with a special focus on the election;
- Assessment of understanding: Organizing a hands-on session on the provided information related to the electoral process;
- Debate panels with youth: organizing 1-2 debate panels about Youth constituency check and how access to information can promote transparency, accountability and hence, contribute to good governance;
- Document the work: producing audio-visual material showing the implementation and results achieved using creative methods;
- Reporting: providing a detailed report to UNESCO on the plan and content of the training sessions.
