Nominations are now open for the Australia-Papua New Guinea Emerging Leaders Dialogue that draws together a diverse group of young and dynamic leaders from the two countries for a wide-ranging discussion on topical and relevant issues.
This year, participants will examine the theme of digital connectivity through a broad range of discussions across economic development, COVID recovery, emergency response, politics and society, business, sport, arts, and social media. Participants will have the opportunity to shape and identify the topics for discussion under the ‘digital’ theme. They will hone participant speaking, media engagement and written communication skills.
The program includes exchanges with experts, dialogues with leading academics and policymakers, opportunities for networking, site visits, and interactive learning activities over five days. Participants are nominated to represent a range of experience, expertise and industry and society groups.
Participants are expected to prepare as appropriate to engage in the discussions over the five days of the dialogue. A knowledge of current affairs and issues is expected, as well as an engagement with the issues on the agenda of the dialogue, details of which will be supplied prior to attendance.
The 2022 Emerging Leaders Dialogue will be held at the Lowy Institute in Sydney from 5-9 December with a visit to Canberra to engage with peak government and NGO agencies.
Eligibility Criteria
- You need to be aged 40 or younger, and a citizen of either Australia or Papua New Guinea to apply.
- You need to be a citizen of either Australia or Papua New Guinea to apply. Applications from citizens from other countries will be considered if the applicant has the right to reside in either Australia or Papua New Guinea, and can demonstrate a close personal connection to both countries.
What is the Application Process?
In order to be considered for participation, you must:
- Submit a short statement (no more than 250 words) in support of your application
- Attach a copy of your CV (PDF or Word document)
- Be able to be interviewed by telephone
- Be able to travel internationally and to apply for a visa if required
- Be able to be permitted by your employer, or able to take necessary leave, to travel to and from and participate in the dialogue.
