The Department of Biotechnology is inviting applicants for its “Biotechnology Social Development Awards 2016” from Government/Non- Government Organizations/Individuals.
Biotechnology as an emerging area has immense potential to improve the lives of people specially the socially and economically disadvantaged sections of the society. The need of the hour is to trap these potential and make them available for the larger population of India residing in villages and remote areas.
This is an attempt to honor and thereby popularizing the role of biotechnology in bringing about the change in the lives of people by delivering essential needs to our community such as healthcare and hygiene, generating more avenues for livelihoods, empowering people and developing local/social entrepreneurs, producing skilled workers & advocacy.
Benefits
- The Department would announce three awards annually: two for Individuals and one for Organization.
- All the three Awards would be of Rs. 5.00 Lakhs each in cash and citation.
Evaluation Criteria
- The significance and relevance of the issue addressed by the NGO or an individual for consideration of the award should be of relevance to the region and has not been already addressed in the region.
- The quantifiable impact in terms of number of beneficiaries and/or economic gain should be evident. For healthcare and education related interventions, the reach or impact should be larger.
- Some economically viable model should have been developed that can be replicated in other regions as well and that should be socially and environmentally acceptable.
- The methodology should have involved some grass-root innovation.
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicants can be an Individual/Extension Scientist/Teacher/NGO/Organization.
- The organizations/ individuals who have already received the award are not eligible to apply again.
- The awardees can be male or female including women entrepreneurs/ scientists/ women social workers/ social organizations that have done out-standing work in the field of societal outreach.
- Scientists/teachers engaged in DBT funded projects are also eligible to apply.
