Nominations are now open for the Brenda Gabe Leadership Award that recognises and rewards the contribution women with disabilities have made, that is of direct benefit to women with disabilities, or to making a more inclusive community, in Victoria.
The Award is presented every two years. You can nominate yourself or your group (self-nomination) or any individual who identifies as a girl/woman (cis or trans), non-binary, or a gender diverse person who identifies with the values and ethos of WDV and with a disability who resides in Victoria.
Supported by Dr Helen Sykes, the Brenda Gabe Biennial Leadership Award is a WDV initiative that celebrates leadership amongst Women with Disabilities in Victoria.
Benefits
- The recipient of the award will be announced at WDV’s Member’s Event on the 29th of August 2023 and will receive a $2,000 prize towards professional development or a capacity-building project.
Eligibility Criteria
- Nominees are those who have made a positive impact on the lives of other women with disability in Victoria.
- Individuals (or groups) nominated for this award must identify as female (cis or transgender) or a non-binary person with disability and reside in Victoria.
- You can nominate yourself or your group (self-nomination) or any individual who identifies as a girl/woman (cis or trans), non-binary, or gender diverse person.
- Nominees should not be current employees (full time, part time or casual) or current Board Directors of Women with Disabilities Victoria (WDV).
- Nominations will be acknowledged in writing within 14 days of the closing date.
- All nominations must be accompanied by two letters of support from referees.
- All nominations require a photograph and a 50-word profile summary which has been approved by the nominee for publicity and research purposes prior to submission.
- All nominations will be assessed by a panel who will select a winner they feel best exemplifies the award eligibility and criteria.
- The selection panel will be made up of two representatives from the Women with Disabilities Victoria Board, the CEO and a community leader.
- The decision of the selection panel is final.
- The recipient will be required to provide:
- A proposal for use of the award money
- The award money cannot be used entirely for purchasing equipment.
- A demonstration of the use of the award money, including a report, by August 2024.
