The Program supports Ontario-based professional Deaf artists and artists with disabilities working in visual art or craft practices to purchase materials.
Materials for Visual Artists, which provides funding to professional artists and arts professionals who are Deaf or have a disability. The program funds materials and supplies including beads, brushes, canvas, clay, fabric, inks, metals, paint, paper, pencils, pens, photographic printing, stone, thread, wood, software, and other art materials. It also covers small tools, small-scale equipment, software, electronics, shipping, delivery costs, childcare and other dependant care fees, and expenses for making projects accessible to participants and audiences who are Deaf or have a disability.
Partial grants are not awarded, and applicants must have at least $500 of eligible expenses. The program does not fund major capital expenditures, studio set-up, materials for student projects, business and promotional expenses, costs for producing a commercial production line, or materials for workshop activities.
Eligible applicants include Ontario-based individual professional artists and arts professionals, ad hoc groups and collectives, and organizations. Individuals must be 18 years of age or older, a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and a resident of Ontario for at least 12 consecutive months. Ad hoc groups and collectives must have at least two members who meet the individual eligibility requirements, with at least 50 per cent residing in Ontario. Incorporated not-for-profit and for-profit organizations, as well as colleges, universities, municipalities, school boards, and First Nations, may also be eligible if they meet specific criteria.
Restrictions apply, and applicants are not eligible if they have an overdue or unapproved final report for a previous OAC grant. You can only apply for one grant in any program per deadline and cannot receive more than one OAC project grant for the same activity. Individuals and organizations not receiving OAC operating funding are eligible for up to three project grants within the same calendar year, provided each is for a different activity.
For Deaf artists and artists with disabilities, supplementary funds are available to cover anticipated accessibility expenses for funded projects. Application Support to cover costs for assistance in completing their application and up to $150 for assistance with final reports.
