Deadline: 15-Sep-2025
The Ethiopiaid Small Grants Programme offers one-off funding opportunities designed to create meaningful impact for local communities.
These grants aim to support grassroots organisations in Ethiopia whose initiatives can drive real change or act as a springboard to attract additional donor support. With grants typically not exceeding £20,000, the programme focuses on providing catalytic funding where it can make the greatest difference.
In its second round for 2025, Ethiopiaid welcomes a wide range of proposals but will give particular priority to projects that help communities respond to the growing challenges of climate change. Alongside climate-focused initiatives, the programme also supports work improving opportunities for women and girls, strengthening maternal health, tackling harmful practices and gender-based violence, advancing education and training for young people, supporting people living with disabilities, addressing neglected diseases, assisting the most vulnerable, and enhancing emergency relief and resilience.
Eligible applicants must be registered charities in Ethiopia, able to provide two years of audited accounts and demonstrate a strong safeguarding framework. Organisations must also show how project outcomes will be sustained after the grant ends and commit to Ethiopiaid’s safeguarding policy and code of conduct. To maintain fairness and broaden impact, Ethiopiaid gives preference to groups that have not received funding from the organisation within the last two years.
Some exclusions apply. Projects that are mainly advocacy-focused, political in nature, or where the grant requested exceeds 50% of the organisation’s annual income will not be considered. The scheme is designed to strengthen local leadership, build resilience, and support initiatives that deliver practical, lasting change for Ethiopian communities.
