Deadline: 31-Jul-2025
The World Food Programme is now accepting grant applications under the initiative Igniting Eswatini’s Green Engine. This program aims to empower Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and Community Service Centres to drive a just energy transition in Eswatini. It supports the shift toward a low-carbon economy by promoting the use of renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies.
The goal of the program is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve access to clean energy, and enhance the productivity and competitiveness of MSMEs. The initiative focuses on key sectors such as energy, environment, and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), with a strong emphasis on sustainable development.
Special attention will be given to two schools for people with disabilities, ensuring they receive tailored energy-efficient solutions. Additionally, eight green Neighborhood Care Points (NCPs) will be established—six in rural areas and two in urban areas. These NCPs will be equipped with solar power and energy-saving appliances to create safer, healthier environments for children and caregivers.
The project will deliver several outputs including site-specific assessments, training materials approved by stakeholders, and the installation of renewable energy systems and metering tools. Continuous post-installation monitoring will ensure effectiveness and sustainability, with regular progress tracking across all eight sites.
The selected implementing NGO must provide monthly progress reports, financial updates, and performance monitoring. Each report must include a significant change story supported by photos and signed consent forms. Monthly progress meetings will be held with the WFP Country Office, either remotely or in person.
The project will also include a formal launch event to increase national awareness, using WFP visibility materials and media outreach. This initiative will be implemented in the Eswatini regions of Hhohho, Lubombo, Shiselweni, and Manzini.
