Deadline: 24-Aug-2025
The Innovation Challenge for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) is a grant initiative designed to highlight the abilities of PWDs while creating real opportunities for social, economic, and environmental progress in Trinidad and Tobago. This program aims to improve livelihoods by expanding access to funding that supports inclusive development.
A collaboration between the Digicel Foundation and the GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP), the challenge encourages innovative projects that make a meaningful difference in the lives of PWDs and their communities. It places a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability and technology.
Projects under environmental sustainability should focus on responsible resource use, biodiversity conservation, and reducing environmental impacts. Technology and digitalisation projects should use digital tools to advance development, promote digital literacy, and close the digital divide.
There are three funding tiers available. “Challengers” supports PWDs working with registered NGOs, offering up to TT$30,000. Pioneers” is aimed at PWD-led small businesses, with up to TT$60,000 in funding. “Trailblazers” supports organizations that provide services for PWDs, offering up to TT$90,000 to expand and enhance their outreach.
In total, five innovative projects will be funded under this initiative. Eligible applicants include persons with disabilities, their caregivers, NGOs, or service providers working with PWDs. Those without a registered group can still apply by partnering with one. Applicants should present innovative ideas that significantly enhance existing projects or business concepts through sustainability or technology.
