Deadline: 31-Aug-2025
The Woodroffe Benton Foundation has opened its August 2025 Small Grant Programme, focusing on projects that improve the quality of life and social engagement for people with severe physical and/or learning disabilities in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
The Foundation awards grants to recognised charitable organisations in the UK working in areas such as relief for those in need due to disaster or difficult social and economic circumstances, provision and maintenance of care for the sick and elderly, promotion of education (particularly in Derbyshire), environmental conservation with public access benefits, and human physical well-being, although grants in this last category are offered only on a proactive basis.
One-off grants range from £500 to £2,500 and may be used for core operating costs, specific projects, or capital expenditure. Eligible applicants include UK-based charities registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator, or the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland, as well as educational institutions. Organisations should generally have at least one full set of accounts and preferably an annual income under £750,000. The Foundation prefers supporting smaller charities and will only fund local branches of national organisations if they have a separate charity number and no financial support from the national body.
Ineligible applicants include unregistered organisations, charities operating for less than 24 months, groups working mainly outside the UK, places of worship seeking building restoration funds, museums, heritage organisations, palliative care providers, most animal welfare organisations, students seeking education or gap year funding, and educational organisations outside Derbyshire (except at the trustees’ discretion). Local branches of national bodies without separate charity numbers and financial independence are also ineligible.
