The United States Embassy in Tanzania is inviting applications for its grant programme entitled “Strengthening Communities to Prevent Violent Extremism in Tanzania” (CVE) to support programming to prevent violent extremism in Tanzania.
The goal of this program is the reduce the threat of violent extremism by: building PVE capacity in vulnerable communities in one to two regions; and engaging citizens, particularly youth in a media campaign that provides a platform for discussing issues, highlights counter-narratives to radicalization, and fosters stronger networks between communities and legitimate leaders.
Objectives
The program comprises the following illustrative objectives:
- Enhance awareness of VE risk factors and PVE best-practices among NGOs, CSOs, and community leaders
- Result 1: Stakeholders can better identify risks of VE in their communities and have increased PVE skills.
- Result 2: Community-led interventions effectively address risks and grievances to reduce radicalization in target communities.
- Reduce the threat of radicalization through a media campaign targeting youth
- Result 1: Youth learn alternative narratives to extremism.
- Result 2: Youth create an outlet to participate in discourse related to issues affecting their lives.
- Result 3: Increased opportunities for engagement through stronger networks between youth and community leaders are available.

Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants that are eligible to apply are U.S. based non-profit/non-governmental organizations (NGOs) having a 501(c) (3) status with the IRS; overseas NGOs; and public international organizations. In particular, submissions from potential implementers with deep experience implementing complex security assistance programs are welcome.
- To be eligible for an award, in addition to other conditions of this NOFO, organizations must have a commitment to non-discrimination with respect to beneficiaries and adherence to equal opportunity employment practices.
