UNDP is inviting all interested companies from Bosnia and Herzegovina to explore the Call for Expressions of Interest to participate in a pilot programme aimed at supporting the private sector to use the economic crisis as an opportunity and reinvent some of their linear business practices towards more sustainable and greener businesses models.
The purpose of this intervention is to help the post-pandemic economic recovery in Bosnia and Herzegovina supporting the selected groups and companies and stakeholders to assist in the transformative actions for “sustainable economic recovery”, the application requires a circular e economy on their business .
With this Expressions of Interest UNDP is looking to identify and support private sector representatives affected by the COVID-19-related economic downturn in Bosnia and Herzegovina to recover smarter and better by:
- Devising a longer-term roadmap towards circular and green approaches for their business,
- Piloting concrete short-term interventions towards circularity of the business operations, to support sustainability of the economic recovery efforts.
This intervention is supported by the UNDP Rapid Response Facility as part of the UNDP COVID-19 response and recovery framework, which focuses on innovative approaches for economic revival and job retention in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The introduction of a circular and regenerative business models entails that not only the environmental impact is minimized, but that the economic and social impact is positive, leading to sustainable growth and expanded business opportunities, even at a time of crisis.
Strategies
As this intervention prioritizes a sustainable recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic by applying a circular economy approach , applicants should demonstrate a willingness to review and transform their business models and practices from the perspective of at least two of the following “ circular strategies ” :
- Saving /Regeneration: Using saving mode design and the technology e production in order to reduce the impact of materials, energy and waste on the environment . Switching to renewable energy sources and materials; investment in health an eco- system and the return of used biological resources in the biosphere.
- Repeat of use (the product as a service): Offer models of subscription, lease or sharing (sharing) of products, instead of business based on their one-time sale.
- Processing / Repair: The designs these producers de that may be easier to fix / restore or “recycle” in new products.
- Return /Additional use of resources: Convert and by-products into new products or add recycled material to products and packaging.
- Renewal / for change: Replace limited available materials with renewables, and focus on sustainable source Replace obsolete processes with materials that are modern and renewable, or apply new technologies, such as three-dimensional printing and electric motors.

Expected Results
At the end of the pilot intervention, the following main results are expected:
- measured base and CO2 footprint for activities in and developed a practical plan times of transformation towards a circular our economy for the operational area of interest activities;
- at least one pilot intervention approach or a mailer to a business model in the selected ” strategies circularity” implemented in each selected Company;
- a summary of best local practices in circular grains business and sustainability that will spread these UNDP for the purpose of learning and scaling.
Eligibility Criteria
- The following applicants may express an interest :
- Companies of private sector registered in Bosnia and Herzegovina, regardless of their size.
- Preference will be given to companies applicants that are coming and with :
- sector affected to Covide infection (services, hotels and tourism, retail, agriculture and forestry, transport, automotive, education;
- sector of the economy that their work has a significant impact on the environment ( industries that are intensive energy and resources, such as the supply of energy, metal production, production of non-metallic minerals, mining, emikalija, other types of production and waste, including water management and sewage in ),
- UNDP seeks to support businesses to recover from the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and also seeks to encourage the ongoing transition of polluting industries to more sustainable business practices and to provide practical support for the introduction of a circular economy approach.
- To be considered eligible under this Call for Expressions of Interest, the proposal of the interested company must meet all of the following criteria :
- A clear explanation of the intention to transform the company through intervention in at least two circular business strategies listed in the above methodology;
- Strong motivation of the company’s management is also the willingness to involve employees in the process (which can be seen through the motivation letter);
- companies and should not be part of similar interventions by Finans IRA particular donor at the time of application ;
- Pilot interventions in each company will need to be implemented in 2 months.

Evaluation Criteria
Each proposal that has passed the eligibility test will be evaluated on the basis of the following basic criteria :
- To what extent the applicant’s business case has a transformative potential / potential to create change ;
- How the applicant demonstrated understanding of the concept of circular grains business seen from the expression of interest;
- Willingness to provide co-financing directly or indirectly (proven by a letter from the company’s management).
Additional Criteria
Additional evaluation points will be awarded to proposals that:
- Anticipated by potential changes in the business models that take into account gender equality;
- Anticipate potential changes in business models that take into account equal opportunities for all and social responsibility.
