Deadline: 03-Oct-2025
The EthiopiAI programme has been launched to harness the power of responsible artificial intelligence for tackling pressing challenges in Ethiopia.
By identifying, developing, and deploying high-potential AI automation and optimisation solutions, the programme will focus on improving outcomes in priority areas such as health, education, humanitarian response, economic development, and climate action. The ultimate goal is to ensure that people can safely benefit from transformative technologies that enhance essential services and support better livelihoods.
Specialist technical assistance will be provided to design and implement AI solutions with real social impact, while also strengthening the skills and knowledge of civil servants. This capacity-building approach will ensure that once the solutions are integrated into public systems, their use is sustainable in the long term. Alongside this, the programme will work with policymakers to create stronger policy and regulatory frameworks that encourage the responsible adoption of AI in Ethiopia.
With a maximum funding value of £4.6 million, this opportunity is set to run from November 2025 to March 2029, offering a substantial timeframe for impact. Only legally registered organisations and consortia of organisations are eligible to apply. Bids from individuals or for-profit entities will not be considered. Applicants must demonstrate expertise and capacity to collaborate effectively with Ethiopian policymakers to ensure the programme’s objectives are met.
This initiative provides a significant opportunity for non-profit actors to contribute to the development of responsible AI systems in Ethiopia, delivering both technological innovation and sustainable social progress.
