Deadline: 08-Oct-2025
The Croatian Science Foundation is inviting proposals for its Swiss-Croatian Bilateral Research Projects. These projects aim to create new knowledge and enhance existing research in specific fields, ultimately contributing to a better understanding of the subject matter. The goal is to build a critical mass of research groups that are competitive at an international level. The proposed research topic must be internationally recognized or nationally relevant, and the Principal Investigator (PI) must have an excellent track record.
The Swiss Principal Investigator, in collaboration with a Croatian partner and research group, prepares a joint project proposal in line with the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) call. This proposal must include a joint scientific description, clearly outlining the scientific contributions from both the Swiss and Croatian teams. The research projects need to be complementary, with both sides’ contributions clearly defined and transparent.
The specific objectives of this initiative include generating new knowledge that strengthens the Croatian economy and enhances societal welfare. The foundation also seeks to foster connections between researchers and establish internationally competitive research groups focused on significant national or global issues. These groups should be led by prominent scientists who have internationally recognized achievements. Additionally, the initiative aims to support the development of young researchers and strengthen Croatia’s scientific and research potential.
The grant amount for the Croatian part of the project ranges from 60,000 EUR to 200,000 EUR, with a project duration of four years.
Eligible applicants are higher education institutions, scientific institutes, and other research organizations with at least five PhD holders employed for over a year. The End Beneficiary (PI) must be the head of the Croatian research group and meet several criteria: the PI must be an active researcher with a PhD, experienced in project management, and possess internationally recognized achievements. The PI must also have a proven history of mentoring young researchers. The PI must be permanently employed at an eligible research organization, and only one proposal may be submitted per Call per year. Researchers employed on the project cannot be considered members of the research group at the time of the application.
