The BRICS STI Framework Programme has announced the launch of the 1st BRICS STI Framework Programme Innovation Call 2025 aimed at fostering research, development, and innovation among institutions across BRICS nations.
This special action is aimed at building up new cooperative ties for high-tech and innovation driven institutions within BRICS, as a critical catalyst for economic development and improved quality of life of the people in the BRICS nations by allocation of funding for research and development carried out by initiatives addressing innovation.
Following a bottom-up approach this special action will support multinational collaborative projects with duration up to 3 years, involving participants from a minimum of two BRICS countries focused on technology maturation, development of a business model towards the innovation’s future commercialization and market deployment.
The call invites applicants from BRICS countries to collaborate and submit proposals for innovative R&D projects. Consortia must include partners from at least two BRICS countries, with one partner serving as the Project Coordinator.
Projects should be built on validated technologies that have already been tested in a laboratory or relevant environment. Each national team is required to submit both a Joint Application Form (JAF) to the BRICS STI Framework Programme Secretariat and a national component to their respective funding organization, following national eligibility rules and procedures.
The collaborative projects can have a duration of up to three years, with expected commencement in the second quarter of 2026. Each participating funding organization will provide financial support to its national institutions in alignment with their national priorities and strategies.
Evaluation of proposals will be carried out by each participating funding organization, assessing the technical content, go-to-market strategy, financial credibility, project management, time plan, international collaboration value, resource appropriateness, and expected technological, economic, and societal impacts. The final funding decisions will be announced in the second quarter of 2026.
Following approval, project leaders and their affiliated institutions must comply with their respective funding organizations’ requirements, including intellectual property rights agreements. Progress and final reports must be submitted both to national funding organizations and to the BRICS STI Framework Programme Secretariat within stipulated timelines.
The submission deadline for the Joint Application Form is on 12th November 2025.
