The Council on Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR), under the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, has opened applications for the 2025-2026 Grants Program to enhance economic, political, and social relations between Australia and Latin America.
The strategic goals are to raise awareness of COALAR and Latin America-Australia relations, strengthen commercial ties, expand social and cultural connections, and foster and promote gender equality and women’s leadership. The strategic priority areas are Culture and Entrepreneurship, Education and Research, Environment and Energy Transition, First Nations, and Mining, Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) and Resources.
The Australian Government has allocated a total of $300,000 for this round, with grants ranging from $10,000 to $50,000. Projects must be completed within 12 months, starting before 30 June 2026. Co-contributions in cash or in-kind are strongly encouraged. Eligible applicants include Australian entities, registered charities, local and state/territory government bodies, and individuals or organisations from specified Latin American countries. Projects must take place in Australia and/or eligible Latin American countries.
Applications are assessed in two stages: Stage One requires a 600-word Expression of Interest addressing relevance, impact, and capacity; successful applicants will be invited to Stage Two for a full application with detailed documentation, including a project plan, budget, risk management plan, and references. Priority will be given to projects aligned with multiple strategic priority areas and goals, particularly for Education and Research projects, which must link to at least one other priority area.
The application period for Stage One closes on 4 September 2025 at 17:00 (AEST).
