The Women’s Bureau has issued a call for applications for its Women in Apprenticeship and Non-traditional Occupations (WANTO) Technical Assistance Grant Program. This program aims to provide technical assistance to employers and labor unions across the United States and its territories to promote the hiring of women in both apprenticeable and non-traditional occupations.
Through this initiative, the technical assistance offered will help employers and unions better recruit, mentor, train, and retain women in these fields. By doing so, the program supports the expansion of women’s employment opportunities, increases their participation in the labor force, and contributes to the economic security of women and their families, while strengthening the national economy.
A total of approximately $5 million in funding is available. The program expects to fund between 6 to 14 projects, with individual grant amounts ranging from $350,000 to $750,000. Each project will have a performance period of 24 months.
Expected outcomes of the program include the number of women enrolling in pre-apprenticeship, youth apprenticeship, Registered Apprenticeship, or other nontraditional skills training programs by the end of the grant period. It also includes the completion rate of these programs and the number and percentage of women securing full-time employment as a result of the technical assistance provided.
Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations with or without 501(c)(3) status, excluding institutions of higher education.
