RES4Africa Foundation is glad to announce a call for applications for the 2021 Advanced Training Course (ATC) programme.
The Advanced Training Course (ATC) is the RES4Africa Foundation’s two-week training program focused on key technical, regulatory, financial, and sustainability issues for renewable energy, delivered by experienced managers, professionals, academics, and high-skilled technicians, matched with visits to laboratories and power plants.
RES4Africa’s flagship capacity building training addressed to institutional and high-level managers and profiles operating in the RE sector in Africa.
This year edition will be held online between November, the 24th and March, the 30th and will be made up of 16 e-lectures. A total of 250 candidates will be selected among middle managers from public institutions, national authorities, energy companies, energy and implementing agencies, research institutions and civil society organizations.
The topics will provide technical, economic and regulatory skills related to African energy contexts, for an efficient and effective deployment of renewable sources in emerging electricity markets, whilst creating an international network of experts. The best-performing participants, together with the best student of the 2020 edition, will have the opportunity to take part in the physical session of ATC in 2022.
Structure Program
The structure of the program includes 16 different webinars that foresee 56 hours of lectures on the main technical, regulatory and economics features of electricity markets and associated topics given by qualified international experts, academics and highly skilled technicians.

- December 22nd: Energy economics;
- January 12th: European Investment Bank day;
- January 19th: Bankability and Project Finance;
- January 26th: Energy management;
- February 2nd: Access to energy;
- February 9th: Integration of RE into the grid and coupling with storage technology;
- February 16th: Infrastructure and Grids for Africa;
- February 23rd: Social impacts and job creation of energy transition;
- March 2nd: Renewable energy transition in South Africa;
- March 9th: Renewable energy transition in North Africa;
- March 16th: Renewable energy transition in the Sahel region;
- March 23rd: Innovation and Digitalization;
- March 30th: Sustainability and Circular economy.
The Webinar training sessions encourage participants to explore multidisciplinary approaches covering technical, economic and regulatory topics mainly integrating:
- theoretical and academic sessions;
- market perspective and industrial view.
Target audience
- The target audience for this program is represented by young high-level professionals and middle managers serving in public institutions, energy companies, energy centers, universities and research agencies, operating in all the African Countries (Southern, Northern, Western, Eastern and Central Africa).
- The range of background skills by the participants to the course will be diverse, ranging from professionals with a regulatory background, program managers to energy engineers.
- In total, 250 participants will be selected to take part in the webinars training sessions.
Eligibility Criteria
- The ATC is open to young middle managers from public institutions, national authorities, energy companies, energy and implementing agencies, research institutes, TSOs, DSOs, research institutions and civil society organizations coming from Sub-Saharan Africa and SEMCs with a seniority between three and six years in the energy field and good knowledge of English.
