Deadline: 21-Sep-2025
The 2026 U.S. Fulbright Specialist Program is now accepting applications, offering a unique chance for accomplished U.S. academics and professionals to share their expertise abroad.
The program seeks individuals to participate in short-term, project-based assignments—typically spanning two to six weeks—at host institutions around the world. These institutions, ranging from universities to cultural centers or NGOs, design the projects and collaborate with U.S. specialists to address targeted needs and advance institutional capacity.
Interested institutions are invited to design projects that reflect on American history, institutions, economic and entrepreneurial leadership, American excellence in education, and America’s global engagement. Proposals are encouraged to align with the spirit of the semiquincentennial, highlighting the story of America’s past 250 years, including its achievements, democratic traditions, and shared values. By weaving these themes into project design, host institutions can ensure their proposals contribute to broader cultural and historical reflections on America’s role in the world.
This initiative supports mutually beneficial exchanges that emphasize practical, outcome-oriented work. Specialists may be called upon to deliver seminars, develop curriculum, consult on strategic development, conduct evaluations, or even lead workshops—all tailored to the project’s scope. The format is designed to offer significant impact in a condensed timeframe, often making this an ideal match for professionals who cannot commit to longer-term assignments abroad.
The program is administered by World Learning on behalf of the U.S. Department of State. Interested individuals must first apply to join the Fulbright Specialist Roster through the official online portal, where applications are accepted year-round. Each submission is reviewed by a peer panel approximately every eight weeks. Those selected are added to a three-year roster, during which they become eligible for matching with hosted projects.
This enhanced Fulbright Specialist opportunity is a compelling invitation to U.S. professionals ready to deploy their knowledge on an international stage. It supports meaningful cultural and academic collaboration while advancing global understanding—one project at a time.
