Applications are now open for the UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man Awards to recognise organisations and individuals working for a more sustainable Isle of Man.
The vision is an Island where people and the rest of nature have a sustainable future. Their shared aim is ‘Working Together for a Sustainable Future’.

- Economy: please enter projects and initiatives that have contributed to their UNESCO Biosphere’s economy in a sustainable way
- Education: please enter projects and initiatives that educate and inform people about sustainable living in their UNESCO Biosphere
- Energy: please enter projects that promote greener energy usage and energy saving, in line with their UNESCO Biosphere’s climate change commitment
- Enjoyment/Engagement: please enter projects and initiatives that contribute to enjoying and getting involved with their UNESCO Biosphere
- Environment: please enter project and initiatives that conserve and enhance the natural and built environment of their UNESCO Biosphere.
Funding Information
The project has a budget of £50,000 a year and two officers, a project officer and a project assistant. However, the cross-community, collaborative, nature of the project means much valuable work is achieved at no cost.
Criteria
- The Isle of Man Government will continue to support their UNESCO Biosphere, through its overall decision-making and by providing a dedicated officer and budget to enable them to participate in global UNESCO initiatives, devise and implement local projects, initiatives and events in line with the five Es and communicate successes.
- Their Stakeholder Partnership Group members will continue to oversee the delivery of UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man in a balanced way, jointly and through their own organisations, and will contribute to delivering projects and initiatives.
- A youth project will be relaunched to give young people a greater voice within Biosphere and support them to play a hands-on role in delivering projects and initiatives.
- Their schools and University College Isle of Man, as Biosphere Partners, will continue to foster the global young citizens of the future through their Biosphere engagement.
- All their Partners will contribute to a sustainable future through their commitment to their Biosphere Pledge, driving positive change in their organisations.
- Their entire community will be the most essential ingredient in their success as a Biosphere – in embracing the principles, delivering projects and effecting change.
