Deadline: 06-Dec-2025
The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking expressions of interest for initiatives aimed at preventing and treating malnutrition in the Province du Barh-El-Gazel in Chad.
This program focuses on nutrition, particularly addressing both chronic and acute malnutrition among vulnerable populations.
The initiative aims to strengthen community engagement in managing acute malnutrition among children aged 6 to 23 months, as well as pregnant and breastfeeding women. Targeted interventions will ensure that children and women with moderate acute malnutrition are identified and supported within local nutrition units, while those with severe acute malnutrition are referred to appropriate treatment programs. Nutritional support, including rations for children aged 6 to 59 months, will be provided to treat malnutrition effectively.
The program also emphasizes improving maternal and child healthcare access, particularly nutrition during the first nine months of pregnancy. Household income sources will be diversified, and families’ knowledge and practices regarding nutrition and health risks will be enhanced through support for Mothers’ Clubs. Community-based nutrition education programs, such as FARNE initiatives, will promote the use of agricultural production for improved nutrition and prevent malnutrition at the local level. Cash distribution to children under two years old and women of reproductive age is included as a preventive measure.
Additional objectives include providing essential family practice education, strengthening community nutrition monitoring systems, and enhancing the capacities of implementing actors for national protocol compliance, qualitative monitoring, reporting, and operational guidance. The program also seeks to improve caregivers’ understanding of key family practices related to infant and young child feeding, hygiene, and disease prevention, while fostering multi-stakeholder coordination at various levels.
This initiative represents a comprehensive approach to tackling malnutrition in Barh-El-Gazel, combining direct nutritional support with community education, capacity building, and systemic coordination to achieve sustainable impact.
